AI-generated short film

The 311

A journey to a job interview that takes a wrong turn into the client's imagination — with the people I'm meeting already cast in the story.

Why I made it

The 311 is a format prototype as much as a film. The premise: the audience is in the picture. The panel who will interview me ride the bus beside me; the founders hang in oil on the great hall walls. AI generation makes this kind of personalised storytelling viable at a speed and cost that used to rule it out — and the end screen carries a placeholder for where the format goes next: an interactive live event that global teams can stream into and take part in, together.

How it was made

Every frame of The 311 was generated, composited and finished in a pipeline built for repeatable, directable output — not one-off prompt rolls.

01

Write and direct

Story, script and shot design developed before a single frame was generated. The brief drives the tools, not the other way around.

02

Generate

Image-to-video generation in Runway Gen-4.5, driven through the workflow canvas with JSON-controlled nodes for consistent, repeatable shots.

03

Composite

Generated elements assembled into coherent scenes and environments in post, holding continuity of light, space and character across shots.

04

Finish

Edit, grade and sound taken through a full post pipeline to a professional finish — the point where AI output becomes a film.

Same scene. New cut. No reshoot.

Because every shot is generated from locked character and scene references, a finished scene stays editable. Re-frame it for a new platform, swap an element, change a beat — the scene re-renders to the new brief without cast, crew or cameras going back out. Below: the same scene delivered as a broadcast cut and a native vertical for social, from one pipeline.

9 : 16  —  native vertical
